Law Brushing teeth and gargle When Fasting

Many friends or patients who asks, whether brushing and gargle can broke the fast? Depkes Doctor can be directly answered no. However, of course this needs to be based on the opinion of experts, the jurist who is steeped in the science regarding the procedure prayer(fasting).

Here is an explanation of Ustadz Ahmad Sarwat, LC. about laws brushing and gargle when fasting.

Question :
Gargling ablution time when fasting, maybe the water is not consumed? In my opinion, surely rinse water that ablution when mix with saliva, and finally consumed too. Do broke the fast? Especially if a toothbrush with toothpaste. Then what is the solution? Explanation please.

Answer :

Maybe only a small part of the water which garled with saliva and the water was swallowed.
But if so, fasting become canceled or no?

Okay Maybe logically we think so, but before we talk with logic, it would not hurt for us to refer to the fatwa and the instructions of Prophet Muhammad SAW. We need to get true information, is it true according to Muhammad SAW, mouthwash it broke the fast?

If us peruse the hadists of the prophet, we will find some of the history that actually allow someone gargle, as long as it is not overdone so really nothing goes into the body cavity.

From Umar Ibn Al-Khattaab ra. said, "one day I rest and kiss my wife while I was fasting. Then I went to the Prophet and asked, "I have done something fatal today. I have kissed in a State of fasting. " The Prophet replied, "don't you know the law when you gargle in a State of fasting?" I replied, "do not invalidate the fast." The Prophet replied, "then kissing it did not invalidate the fast." (Narrated by Ahmad and Abu Dawood)

In addition, there are other hadith which also often defined by scholars as evidence capacity gargled at the time of fasting.

From Laqith bin Shabrah ra. saying that the Prophet Muhammad said, "Perform wudu ', and dampen the sidelines of fingers, insert water into the nose, except when it is being fast." (Narrated by Ibn Khuzaemah and Arba'ah to shohih this hadith).

Then with two propositions, the logic that says that gargling invalidate the fast became a fall by itself is not the us that is set. The reason which sets the cancel or whether fasting is not merely our logic but logic kept should refer to the hadith syari. When there is no evidence that is sharih and shaih, analogies and qiyas based logic can be played.

Even some of the other hadeeth allows a more severe case than just gargle, namely capacity a the fasting person to sample the cooking.
